Pass used in Apartheid South Africa

The "Population Registration Act" of 1950 required that inhabitants of South Africa are classified according to their race. People not classified as "white" had to carry passes as a proof that they were allowed to work and move in certain permitted areas of "white" South Africa. These passbooks were called "dom pas" by the Afrikaans-speaking Whites, a racist, derogatory term meaning "stupid pass".
